Jonathan Pain is a Director of JP Consulting NSW Pty Ltd. He has 28 years of international investment experience having led investment teams in London, Bahrain and Australia.

Jonathan holds a joint honours degree in Economics and Politics from Keele University and a Masters degree in Finance from Exeter University.

Jonathan is the author and publisher of a widely read investment newsletter, The Pain Report. He is well known for his contrarian views and is a regular speaker at investment conferences and seminars.

The Pain Report provides an independent and global perspective of the financial markets and the world economy.

In numerous speeches and articles, he highlighted the unsustainable levels of debt and the housing bubble in America, and his warnings of the impending crisis have been acknowledged by respected commentators such as Alan Kohler and Graham Rich.

In 2009 he said that we all faced a ‘New Reality’ and that the world was divided between those nations that were submerging and those that were emerging.  In 2010, he suggested we needed an IMF (Intergalactic Monetary Fund) to bail out Greece.

Over the last several years, he has repeatedly said that the most significant and defining economic phenomenon of our lifetime is the rise of the Asian middle classes.

Having been born in South Africa and lived in Lesotho, Swaziland, England and Bahrain, Jonathan now calls Australia home.

In his presentation, Jonathan Pain takes his audience on a journey around the world from West to East, via the Middle East.

He begins the journey in America and travels through Europe, stopping in Athens, London and Rome. We visit Cairo, to witness the winds of change blowing through the region, and travel to the Persian Gulf. Your trip includes stops in Chongqing, Ho Chi Minh and Singapore, before arriving in Australia.

He  believes that the most significant and defining economic phenomenon of our lifetime is the rise of the Asian middle classes and that they will be a major force in shaping and defining our economic destiny here in Australia and the wider world.

We have all been mesmerised by the motorisation, industrialisation and urbanisation of the world’s most populous nation and we need to understand that the developing Asian nations are home to 3 billion consumers. It is not, however, just a story about China, but India, Indonesia and countries such as Vietnam, which rise like a Phoenix from a brutal history.
